We took a day trip from Turku to Salo, and our first destination was Design Hill. Here, you'll find many well-known Finnish brands, like Marimekko, which is famous not just in Finland but internationally as well. Some Marimekko items are discounted; for instance, a teapot was originally 135 euros but now costs 95 euros.
You can also discover other Finnish brands on sale, like Finlayson, offering a 50% discount on some items. They also showcase international brands like Alessi from Italy and Dixie items which are made in Sweden. Fiskars, another Finnish brand, is present as well. I'm quite taken with this beautiful Woodstone walnut cutting board priced at 195 euros (but Mikko wasn't feeling it, haha).
There's also a neat pocket bottle from Heirol, another Finnish brand. Design Hill has a range of cutting boards priced about 100 euros, all of excellent quality. I spotted a lovely plate from Villeroy and Boch for 25 euros, bread bags, and boxes from Stelton, a Danish brand.
Of course, you can find Finnish staples like Iittala and Redecker House of Brushes, a German brand. Redecker offers pumice stones for only 4 euros each, and cute, eco-friendly ear cleaners that are plastic-free and reusable.
I picked up a sewing kit that I needed and there’s also a bar compass for mixology enthusiasts, though Mikko thinks we could do without it.
Did you know “Suomi” means “Finland” in English? They also have a section dedicated to stationery items. I also found a Blomus reversible storage bag, another German brand. I also got lavender essential oil for 11 euros.
Don't miss the dedicated chocolate space for the brand Petris, where you can watch chocolate being made. Oh, and I grabbed some chips too! In total, we spent 140 euros at Design Hill.
